Will My Feet Shrink If I Lose Weight?

This is a question we get a lot. When you're dieting for a competition or event you might lose a lot of weight over time, or even quite quickly. You'll know when your clothes get looser and you need to start buying smaller sizes, but did you know this can happen with your feet too?

Now before you start to worry, here's the thing. You need to lose (or gain) quite a lot of weight before this starts to happen, and it doesn't happen to everyone. And everybody is different, so the exact amount of weight is hard to guess, but for women under about 80kg you generally needs to lose at least 10kg before you might start to notice a change in your shoe size.

It's more likely to affect the width of your feet rather than the length, though to get shoes to fit a wider or thinner foot you often have to change sizes. (BTW if you have wide feet, check out my blog on high heels for wide feet here).

So if you plan to cut a lot of weight in the few weeks before your big day, it might pay to delay buying your shoes until a bit closer to the time to make sure you get the perfect fit.
